Death

A few years ago I was randomly watching much musics show Power 30 which was their half an hour metal video slot. At this point in time George Stroumboulopoulos hosted the show and as most people know he is very knowledgeable on many topics including music. Anyways, he read some fan letter about how they always played lame nu metal videos and never played anything good from the early 90's. His comeback to that was to introduce me and most likely many others to a not so well known metal band who went by the name of "Death" arguably coining the "death metal" genre. The song was "lack of comprehension"

Now I was already a big metal fan but had never really given death metal a real chance because a lot of the death metal I had heard sounded like it was recorded in a tin can but this was different. I was instantly hooked. Right after I heard lack of comprehension I needed to know more about the band and why I had only just know discovered them. After a long search on the net I was able to find the official Death website called Empty Words which is a song on a Death album. On this site I was able to pretty much learn everything about the band including that its creator and lead singer/lead guitarist Chuck Shuldiner had died of brain cancer in 2001. Chuck being the only original member of the band was an amazing inspirational guitar player. I went on to find and listen to almost all of Deaths albums. Concluding that this was now maybe my favorite metal band. The technical solos performed by Chuck are unlike anything I have ever heard. I would highly suggest picking up some Death albums or at least going to the website to see what they were all about. Its a great website built by Chucks family to spread his word.
